How to get to Río Limpio

From Santo Domingo:

Arriving in Río Limpio is a full day's trip from Santo Domingo. It's best to start out early in the morning in case of any unforseen adventures along your way. By far the easiest way to get to Rio Limpio is to take a Caribe Tours bus from Santo Domingo to Loma de Cabrerra.

According to their web site, buses leave for Loma at 6:45, 7:45, and 1:30. The earlier bus you take, the better. Taking the 1:30 bus could require an overnight stay in Loma if all of the trucks to Río Limpio have already left for the day by the time you get there.

Caribe Tours is located at the intersection of the 27 de Febrero and the Leopoldo Navarro. Most anyone in the city will know where they are and can point you in the right direction.

Once you arrive in Loma de Cabrerra, you want to catch a truck to Río Limpio. The trucks leave from the town's center square--you can ask anyone for una guagua hasta Río Limpio and they'll make sure you get there.

You'll most likely be riding on the back of a pickup truck (called a guagua in the DR) up and down the steep mountain roads, unless you can manage to ride in the cab. It's about a 90 minute ride, so be prepared for some bumpy, dusty roads and pray it doesn't rain.

The truck will take you the whole way to the town and should cost 35-45 pesos.

Once you get to town, tell the driver you want to go to the cabañas turisticas and he'll take you directly there.
